A Vision for Scoil Naomh Lorcáin

The Revised Primary School Curriculum in use at this school celebrates the uniqueness of the child. It is designed and adapted to nurture the child in all dimensions of his/her life – spiritual, moral, cognitive, emotional, imaginative, aesthetic, social and physical. In addressing these dimensions the curriculum enriches the child’s life and the foundations are laid for happiness and fulfilment in later education and in adult life.

The curriculum acknowledges that children live in and are part of society. Their personal development is deeply affected by their relationships with others. Thus the curriculum seeks to balance individual and social development to help the children to work co-operatively with others.

Our school realises that education and society are closely linked. The childrens’ education helps them to share in the benefits of society and also enables them to contribute to the evolution of the society in which they live. The child’s education must equip him/her in adjusting to change.

To cater for this vision of education the curriculum on offer at our school is structured but flexible. It promotes an active and imaginative involvement by the children to meet with confidence, the demands of life now and in the future.
