Ethos Statement

School Ethos – Scoil Naomh Lorcáin

  • The teaching staff aim at making the school a centre of excellence in which high professional standards are maintained and where pupils learn in a safe and happy environment.
  • A spirit of mutual respect is promoted within the school community.
  • Pupils are drawn by example and teaching to appreciate and respect people of different backgrounds.
  • The school’s code of discipline reflects the Christian values promoted within the school, with an emphasis on forgiveness, reconciliation, new beginnings and hope.
  • Teachers are sensitive to the needs and particular circumstances of the pupils.
  • The school recognises the dignity and value of each person made in the image and likeness of God. This is reflected in the organisation of the school.
  • Close contact is maintained between the school and the home. Parents and teachers support one another and collaborate with one another as partners in leading the young pupils to the fullness of their potential at the different stages.
  • Teachers are encouraged to develop their personal and professional talents through which they glorify God and serve those young people in whose education they play such a significant role.
  • Ancillary staff in a school are highly esteemed and respected. It is recognised that their work makes a valued contribution to the process of education.
  • A positive ethos, while intangible, is nonetheless recognised and appreciated as supportive and enlivening to those who learn and those who work in the school.
  • Scoil Naomh Lorcáin aims to promote the personal, spiritual, physical, creative and academic development of its students.
  • Christian values permeate all aspects of school life. We are a learning community which values and respects all students equally, while recognising that each student is unique and has different gifts as well as needs.
  • The school is committed to providing an ordered learning environment, which encourages the students to strive to realise their full potential.
  • School motto is: Déanfaimid ár ndicheall i gcónai.
  • The ethos (character) of the school is important in establishing and maintaining high standards of behaviour. In order to achieve such standards, close co-operation between staff, pupils, parents and management is essential.
  • Our school places strong emphasis on the need to give the children every possible opportunity to develop patterns of good behaviour. The aim is to ensure that the individuality of each child is accommodated while at the same time acknowledging the right of each child to education in a relatively disruption free atmosphere.
  • In order to achieve a happy, secure environment in which children can develop fully the school will attempt to provide a framework which promotes constructive behaviour and discourages unacceptable behaviour.
  • School rules are devised with regard for the health, safety and welfare of all members of the school community.
