Sports Day 2017 – Green and Amber Flags- Visit of Carlow Rose, Ciara Dooley

What a day!

Today was our annual sports day and it was jam packed with fun!

We started with swimming races at Graiguecullen pool, where family and friends cheered the children on. The children have progressed greatly at swimming with their block of lessons at the pool this term. Thanks Ali, Bernie, Colm and Julie!

When we returned to the school everything had been laid out for sports races and activities. There were stations set up around the yard with everything from the wheelbarrow race to football drills, parachute cooperative games, teddy bear races, basketball fun and much more. The children moved around from station to station, getting to try all the activities. There was even a drinks station for when thirst struck!

At one o’ clock it was time for a breather and plenty of lunch, but that wasn’t the end of our fun. Mr Kane took to the DJ stand in the staff room and from 1.30-2 we danced away in the yard to an outdoor disco. The staff room was converted into an ice-cream stand and every child had some yummy ice-cream on a cone (thanks Michelle!).

Some past pupils had arrived to join us and 5th and 6th were happy to challenge them to a game of  Bull Rush Tag. There were even Mammies brave enough to take part!

Just after two we gathered in the yard, a special guest was about to arrive. The children got a big drum roll ready…………it was Ciara Dooley, the Carlow Rose and past pupil of Levitstown school.

Ciara had come to help us hoist our fourth Green Flag for Transport and our Amber Flag for Promoting Positive Mental Health. Thank you Ciara! We look forward to seeing her on stage in the Dome later in August.

There was still time for 5th and 6th class to take on some past pupils (even some Kildare players, well done Neasa!) in a basketball match, while the younger children enjoyed some teddy bear races and Peter from the Nationalist was on hand to take some photos of the happy memories made today.

Thank you to everyone, staff, parents and all who came today to help make this a very special Sports Day for the children to remember!
